Animal Magic in the Autumn Sunshine

The sun shone and visitors to the East of England Autumn Show had a fabulous time last Sunday. The Show, held at the East of England Showground in Peterborough, displayed a wide variety of animals and birds from the majestic Shire Horses to fancy rats and mice. Spectators were also able to enjoy the furry fury of dog agility and lurcher racing.

The Wisbech Shire Horse Show , incorporated into the Autumn Show, enthralled spectators, showing theses magnificent beasts in their traditional glory. The equine action stepped up a gear, with Pony Club show jumping competitions, and Donkeys were also a big hit, being shown in harness and in-hand.

A great display of poultry and waterfowl was on show, with pigeons and budgerigars making up the feathered show.

All sorts of doggy antics were enjoyed by visitors, including a heat of Scruffts (the Kennel Club’s search for the crossbreed of the year) and terrier and lurcher shows.

The first ever Giant Vegetable comeptition was a success with the winning pumpkin weighing in at 262kg!

Competitive classes of Sheep and Pigs were well attended and gave exhibitors a relaxing end to a exciting and competitive showing year. Displays of rare breed farm livestock entertained and educated visitors.

Children and adults alike enjoyed welly wanging, in aid of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.
