Show Goes Back to its Roots

The region’s leading countryside and lifestyle show - The East of England Show – was an outstanding success, with thousands of visitors streaming through the gates to enjoy three sunny days of rural pursuits.

This Show was a celebration of all things rural. The livestock classes built on last year’s success and saw even higher levels of entries this year. The Show always attracts some of the country’s finest livestock and the standard improved yet again this year.

Horses of all shapes and sizes featured strongly throughout the Show. Show Jumping returned to the main arena this year, and guaranteed an action packed equestrian timetable for spectators in the Grandstand.

Vintage agricultural machinery, steam and classic cars had a larger section this year and the demonstrations and parades by these magnificent machines were a treat for all nostalgia buffs.

Food remained at the heart of the Show and the children’s Pizza Kitchen went down a storm, instructing children how their food gets from the farm to their plate in a truly hands on way. The Food Hall contained many of the region’s best food and drink producers, selling their delicious produce. There was also culinary inspiration on offer in the food demonstration theatre, while on Friday the finalists in the School Food Challenge amazed the judges with their skills as they battled it out for this prestigious trophy.

There was plenty of musical entertainment throughout the weekend, and the headline act were 60s pop sensation Marmalade, who performed the evening concert on Saturday.

Few were be able to resist the Peterborough International Orchid Show, which was open on all three days of the Show, this year. As well as the fabulous orchids themselves and exhibitors coming from around the World, there was a photographic competition, as well as displays of scientific and historical paintings.

There was plenty of opportunity for retail therapy, with over 400 retail stands to choose from, including lifestyle and fashion, a craft fair and the Food Hall.
