THE EAST OF ENGLAND CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL
SATURDAY 10TH & SUNDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2007

A Unique Christmas Shopping Experience All Under One Roof

FESTIVE FUN AT CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL

Thousands of visitors entered into the festive spirit at this year’s East of England Christmas Festival – the Ultimate Christmas Shopping Experience - held over the weekend at the East of England Showground in Peterborough.

With over 250 craft and gift stands to choose from, visitors to the Christmas Festival had the perfect opportunity to make an early start on their Christmas shopping. This year the Food Hall was in exec, the brand new exhibition centre at the Showground, and was bursting with heavenly delights, providing everything for your Christmas feasts.

Visitors were able to purchase a delicious mug of hearty soup, from a recipe devised by local school children. The Junior Schools Soup Challenge has involved school children from across the region, devising their favourite soup recipe. The winning soups were sold at the Festival, with all the profits from the sale going to the winning schools. The schools were Milton Road Primary School, Cambridge; Beaupré Community Primary School, Outwell; Priory Junior School, St. Neots and Peckover Primary School, Wisbech.

The Entertainment Stage featured inspirational demonstrations from experts on a range of topics, coupled with musical acts and children’s entertainer, Banana Brain, to keep the crowds entertained. This year saw a brand new Food Demonstration Stage, with cookery demonstrations from TV chef Rachel Green, and others, with plenty of tips for the perfect Christmas dinner.

Younger visitors, as well as the young at heart, especially enjoyed meeting Father Christmas and his little helpers in a magical Winter Wonderland, as seasonal fun continued with a Victorian Funfair featuring the steam gallopers of yesteryear.

Chief Executive, Andrew Mercer said, ‘This is the fourth year we have held the Christmas Festival. This year the Festival has grown again with the inclusion of the new exhibition hall, exec, visitors clearly enjoyed themselves and with admission prices remaining low, it was an exceptional value for money day out’.

Next year’s Christmas Festival will take place on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th November 2008. More information can be found at www.showground.org.uk
