East of England Show 2008 an Outstanding Success

The annual East of England Show has been hailed a success by its organiser - the East of England Agricultural Society.

Free Farming Friday signalled a fabulous start to this year’s East of England Show. The sun shone on the Showground and the crowds poured through the gates. Entry to the Show on Friday was free as part of the Agricultural Society’s celebrations for the fortieth anniversary of the Show on its current site. The day started early with the commencement of a busy weekend of livestock and equine judging plus show jumping. A record number of school parties attended the Show on Friday, and the School Food Challenge reached its thrilling final, with Redbourne Upper School being judged winning school and Shoeburyness High School being judged winning xl club.

Saturday and Sunday saw great family entertainment with the Dancing Diggers, Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team and Devil’s Horsemen providing exciting, adrenalin filled displays in the Main Ring, while James Tanner and Lesley Waters offered mouth watering recipe ideas and tricks of the trade in their cookery demonstrations.

Both the food hall and the main stage took advantage of the fabulous new facilities in the brand new exec exhibition hall, and the main stage hosted the ‘disco-tastic’ Boney M on Saturday evening.

In its second year at the East of England Show, the Peterborough International Orchid Show attracted huge crowds. With exhibitors and visitors coming from around the World to show their blooms, the Show is fast establishing itself as a firm favourite with exhibitors and visitors alike.

Andrew Mercer, Chief Executive said, ‘With tens of thousands of happy visitors, this year’s show has been another exceptional event for us. We are delighted with the success of Free Farming Friday, as well as the new layout to the Show, incorporating our brand new exhibition hall, exec Peterborough. It was certainly great to see everyone really enjoying themselves over the three days’.
