SHIRE HORSE SPRING SHOW
15th and 16th March 2008
DON’T MISS A GRAND DAY OUT
This year’s Shire Horse Society Spring Show (Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th March 2008) sees a record breaking number of entries. The Show will feature the magnificent spectacle of almost 300 Shire Horses on display in the fabulous new indoor grand arena. The arena will be in exec, the brand new exhibition centre at the East of England Showground in Peterborough.
The two-day spectacular, organised by the Shire Horse Society, a registered charity, is the largest Shire Horse show in the World. It helps to raise much needed funds to support this threatened breed and secure its future, especially among the younger generation.
Visitors to the Show, which attracts spectators from across the country, as well as overseas, will be able to see hundreds of Shire Horses expertly presented and dressed in their traditional glory. There will be a range of demonstrations and classes featuring in-hand, harness, turnout, ridden, with implements and cross-country driving.
Plenty of main ring entertainment is scheduled over the two days, culminating in a grand parade in the afternoon each day. You can also take the opportunity to visit the horses in their stables enjoying a well-earned rest!
There is fun for all the family, including vintage tractors and farm machinery, a dog agility show and a Victorian funfair. You can also see farriers at work, as the Show hosts the largest farriery competition of heavy horses in England, with over 50 competitors. And if that’s not enough, there is also the chance to do a bit of retail therapy with over 200 trade stands, an indoor shopping area and food hall.
Andrew Mercer, Chief Executive said, “This year’s Show promises to be our best ever. We have the most horses we have ever had, plus we have the benefit of the Main Arena being indoors, so you can enjoy the Show whatever the weather! The Shire Horse Society Spring Show is a fantastic way of supporting this breed before it becomes too late, as well as enjoying a superb day out for the whole family.”
