East of England Agricultural Society partners with the William Scott Abbott Trust to deliver and expand the Kids Country education programme
The East of England Agricultural Society is proud to announce a new collaboration with the William Scott Abbott Trust, the educational charity behind the long-established Sacrewell Farm. Together, the organisations will support the growth of the Agricultural Society’s existing Kids Country programme, which is designed to inspire the next generation’s understanding of farming and food production.
Launching in January 2026, the programme will continue the delivery of hands-on farming and food workshops in primary schools and will introduce the ability to host visits and workshops on the farm at Sacrewell. While Kids Country has prided itself on bringing the farm into the schools over the last few years, the Sacrewell Farm venue will allow students to see crops, livestock, and countryside practices in-situ, helping them gain a deeper understanding into where food comes from and the vital role farmers play in caring for the countryside.
The partnership reflects both organisations’ shared commitment to supporting rural education and encouraging young people to develop a lifelong connection to the land. The team at Sacrewell will take point with the delivery of the workshops and events, while continuing to offer the rewarding volunteering opportunities that have become synonymous with the Kids Country experience.
Duncan Furey, Chief Executive of the East of England Agricultural Society, said:
“We are delighted to be working with the William Scott Abbott Trust to expand on the Kids Country programme. Helping children connect the food on their plate to farming, and the environment has never been more important. This partnership allows us to combine our strengths and create meaningful opportunities for young people to explore agriculture in a fun and accessible way.”
To begin with the programme will focus on the delivery of workshops in schools, with the longer term goal of reintroducing multi-school one day events such as the food and farming day.
Sacrewell are currently recruiting for an Outreach Learning Officer to help deliver the programme, for more information on the role and how to apply, please visit www.sacrewell.org.uk/about/join-us/
