East of England Agricultural Society renews its commitment to the livestock sector through sponsorship of Championship Classes at the 2024 Thrapston Fat Stock Show.
The Agricultural Society are helping to increase the prize pot available at this years show, as Championship Sponsors of the event, offering an incentive for entrants to come and have a crack at taking home the grand prize.
The champion beast in the cattle section could be taking home £1000 with the reserve coming in at £500, while the sheep section has not been forgotten with the prize money almost doubling for champion and reserve placings this year. As well as the cattle and sheep sections, there are also classes for pigs and root crops.
The Society’s Agricultural Manager, Ruth Trolove said “We have a history that is intertwined with livestock showing, going back as far as the formation of the Peterborough Agricultural Society in 1797. While we are no longer hosting our own livestock events, we are delighted to have found a way to continue to support the showing community within the EEAS membership catchment.
We collaborated with the event last year with sponsorship and were impressed with the community feel around the event and the local supporters that came to have a look round, so we are enthusiastically back for another year.”
Previous livestock events at the East of England Agricultural Society included a Summer Show, Autumn Exhibition and more recently a Winter Stock Festival, that attracted exhibitors from across the UK. The Society will look to encourage those that may have exhibited at these events in the past to come and try their hand at Thrapston.
The East of England Agricultural Society are currently in a transitional period, moving towards delivering their charitable objectives though grant awarding opportunities in the Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire area. While timing of the final iteration of this grant awarding model may take a while to fall into place as linked to the Showground development time frame, the Society are eager to support the local agricultural community where possible in the interim.
The Thrapston Fat Stock Show is run by a committee of local people working in and around the livestock industry and is Chaired by Hugh Brightwell. The event is to take place on Saturday 30th November 2024 at Thrapston Livestock Market, by kind permission of Bletsoes.
