Honour for our education programme’s 35,000th pupil
The 35,000th pupil to have taken part in the Kids Country education programme was honoured with a special presentation at the 2018 Food and Farming Day.
A certificate and voucher, kindly sponsored by Nottcutts Garden Centre, was presented by The Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire Mrs Julie Spence OBE QPM to Fourfields Primary School Pupil Jessica Hawke who, along with her fellow pupils, accepted it on behalf of each child who has benefited from Kids Country over the last six years.
Remarkable achievment
Jeremy Staples, Chief Executive Officer of the East of England Agricultural Society, said: “We’re extremely proud that our Kids Country programme of events has been so successful and managed to have educated tens of thousands of primary school aged children since it was established in 2012.
“To have welcomed Kids Country’s 35,000th child to Food and Farming Day 2018 is a remarkable achievement that should be celebrated not only by the East of England Agricultural Society but all the farmers, businesses, and schools that have taken part so enthusiastically. These events would not have flourished without them.
“Farming is vital to the wellbeing of the nation and it is crucial the next generation of consumers are supportive – events such as Food and Farming Day do much to win hearts and minds.”
Essential education
Elaine Parker, teacher at Fourfields Primary School, which has attended the event for the past four years, said: “Attending the Food and Farming Day provides children with a fabulous opportunity to discover where some of their food comes from. We feel this is really important, especially living where we do.
“The opportunity to see animals, food products and crops is an essential part of education. There is a wealth of hands-on opportunities where children can make, cook, and explore a whole manner of activities. All of the children we have taken have always left at the end of the day with positive experiences.
“Every year the Food and Farming Day gets better and better. A wonderful educational day out!”
