Rosettes for Stamford and Peterborough schools in virtual farming competition

With an overwhelming response of competition entries, Fatima from Welland Academy, Peterborough, and April from St Gilberts C of E Primary School, Stamford, went on to respectively win the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Virtual Food and Farming Day Schools’ Competition. Replacing the much loved ‘Design a Farm’ competition at the annual education event at the East of England Showground, this year’s online event saw Kids Country ask schools to send in pieces of creative work to describe what they enjoyed the most about the 2020 event.

Sponsored by education title, Term Times Magazine, the 1st place winners both secured £150 towards the cost of travel to the Food and Farming Day 2021, with 2nd and 3rd prize winners claiming £100 contribution to a class attending, and a £50 book voucher for their school respectively. The full results are as follows:

Key Stage 1:

1st – Fatima, Welland Academy

2nd – Nikola – Boston St Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary Academy

3rd – Verity – St Gilberts C of E Primary School

Key Stage 2:

1st – April, St Gilberts C of E Primary School

2nd   – Dominykas – St John the Baptist School

3rd – Miley – William Barcroft Junior School

Sandra Lauridsen, education manager for Kids Country, the East of England Agricultural Society’s education programme, says: “We are thrilled that primary schools across the East of England and wider accepted the challenge and responded so creatively and overwhelmingly to this year’s competition, sponsored by Term Times Magazine. It was great to read all the entries and see what the children had enjoyed about this year’s Virtual Food and Farming Day, which we moved online this year. With over 900 schools and homes taking part on the day of the event, and a further 9,000 logging on to the site , we look forward to welcoming all of our usual schools and hopefully even more to the Food and Farming Day when it returns to the East of England Showground in 2021.”
