A winter warmer victory for Billing Brook School

4 young chefs from Billing Brook School have been crowned the champions of this year’s Winter Warmer Soup Challenge.

The Winter Warmer Soup Challenge is a cooking event organised annually by Kids Country, one of the educational initiatives of the East of England Agricultural Society. The competition focuses on engaging children to develop their culinary skills and promoting the importance of nutritional value through the use of seasonal and locally grown foods.

The Final Round

The final stage of this year’s Winter Warmer Soup Challenge took place on Friday 30th November at the Central England Co-operative in Orton Southgate, Peterborough, where the 4 finalist schools, Guyhirn Primary School, Monkshouse Primary School, Boston St Mary’s R C Primary Academy and Billing Brook School, went head to head in a public taste test of their winter warmer soup creations.

The winning recipe, Butternut Squash and Sage Soup created by Billing Brook School, was announced as taking the top spot in the public taste test judging and therefore claims this year’s first prize. Their prize includes £200 in cooking equipment, a visit to their local Central England Cooperative store and of course, the Kids Country Winter Warmer Soup Challenge trophy!

Mr Tabener from Billing Brook School who also entered the competition last year said: “It was a great experience. Such events are a huge benefit for our students in developing skills and building confidence.”
